MEET OUR DIRECTOR AND BOARD MEMBERS
Susan is an Organisational Strategist with 25 years of experience in Strategic Community Development in the US and Africa. She leads a staff of 10 local residents who are all passionately devoted to the orphaned and vulnerable children of Imizamo Yethu.
Our director won the Regional Business Woman of the Year Award for Social Entrepreneurship in 2018.
Anton has served on the iKhaya le Themba Board since 2008 and lived in Hout Bay for over 20 years. He is a development economist and has worked on South Africa’s land reform and urban sustainability issues since 1996. His current work is with the African Centre for Cities at the University of Cape Town where he teaches and leads a project on sustainable urbanisation in Tanzania and Ghana. He is also the director of two South African companies, Econologic and Credible Carbon. He has been a member of the Vineyard Church since 1992
Garth has worked in education his entire adult life, as a teacher, senior school manager and now as an independent education consultant with his own company (Ukufunda Education Consulting). He has lived in Hout Bay for nearly 20 years, and worships at the Jubilee Community Church in the CBD. He is happy to serve on the iKhaya Board as he wishes to support the disadvantaged in his local community and believes that the education of our children is one of the most critical needs in South Africa at the moment.
Louis Van As
Louis is an actuary and has many years’ experience in the financial management of insurance companies. He also believes that it is critical to support those in need, and to help make this country better for all. Therefore, he is privileged to assist iKhaya le Themba with financial management matters. Louis moved to Hout Bay at the end of 2013 and spends most of his weekends next to a soccer pitch supporting his two boys playing football.
Pindy is from Gatyana in the Eastern Cape but came to Cape Town to look for a job. She lives in Imizamo Yethu, and looks after her grandson, Qonda, who is in Grade 4 and attends the iKhaya afternoon programme. She was chosen by the parents to be their representative on the Board. She is very happy to be on the Board, as she can tell the other Board members how she feels as a parent and take to the meetings suggestions or concerns from the parents. iKhaya has helped her know more of the people of IY and she enjoys the opportunity to talk to people about the organisation.
Ncedo is a Pastor at the Lord’s House church in Hout Bay and has lived in Hout Bay for 17 years. He is grateful to the Lord for iKhaya because it is serving the purpose of the Lord in the Imizamo Yethu community – including in his daughter, Zikho’s, life. He is happy to serve on the iKhaya Board as a way contributing to serving the IY community – especially supporting their children, the future of our nation.
Moses Nkhwazi has lived in Hout Bay for nearly 11 years. He worked as a Front Office Operations Manager for almost 7 years and is currently working as Head Barista at Larder Café in Claremont. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church (Livingstonia Synod), and Church Secretary in the CBD. He is more than happy to serve on the iKhaya Board as he has great passion for the vulnerable in his local community and believes education is vital for South Africa’s children.
Katherine Morse is a previous Director of iKhaya (from 2008 to 2013). She is a psychologist with a background in counselling, group work with children, adolescents and families. Her core skills are child and family psychology, programme management and community development.
Kath has a passion for community development and enjoys designing and developing programmes that bring substantial change to disadvantaged communities in South Africa and abroad. She is currently engaged in PhD research into Mathematical mindsets, and works full time for SAILI Scholarships. She is a member of the Mercy Vineyard Church in Bergvliet.
